The IDTech PiP is a compact, standalone NFC reader designed specifically for digital loyalty applications in retail and Hospitality / Food Service. It supports both Apple’s VAS (Value Added Services) protocol and Google’s Smart Tap 2.1—the two leading platforms for digital Loyalty Programs on iOS and Android smartphones. Users simply tap their smartphone once on the reader to redeem loyalty points, receive discount coupons, or sign up for the loyalty program in a matter of seconds—no app download, no manual entry, and no waiting.
Apple VAS & Google Smart Tap: The Tech Giants’ Loyalty Platforms
Apple and Google have developed dedicated protocols—VAS (Value Added Services) and Smart Tap—that turn NFC-enabled smartphones into digital loyalty cards. The PiP supports both protocols in their current versions—including Google Smart Tap 2.1. In addition, MIFARE and other proprietary NFC protocols are supported, enabling integration into existing Access Control or ticketing systems. The protocols can be used in combination with Contactless payment or completely independently of it.

The PiP is designed for maximum user-friendliness: A one-time registration in the digital loyalty program is all it takes—after that, all you need to do is briefly tap your smartphone on the reader. Audible and visual signals (LED and sound) immediately and clearly confirm the successful transaction. There is no additional workload for staff; the PiP operates completely autonomously and integrates seamlessly into existing point-of-sale systems.
