The IDTech MiniMag Rail is a specialized OEM version of the proven MiniMag II and was developed for direct, permanent installation in Kiosk systems, vending machines, access control systems, Transit terminals, and other space-constrained environments. With its compact dimensions of 90 × 34 × 28 mm—roughly the length of a credit card—it can be integrated into virtually any installation scenario while saving space. The flat underside with integrated threaded inserts enables stable, permanent mounting in any orientation; cables can be routed either from the side or from below. The MiniMag Rail is available in several interface variants, covering a wide range of system architectures.

Bidirectional 3-track reading: No misreads, no limitations

The MiniMag Rail reads all standard magnetic stripe cards in a single swipe—in both directions, at a card speed of 5 to 65 inches per second. Tracks 1, 2, and 3 are read simultaneously and reliably; the device is compatible with ISO 7811 (credit and debit cards, ID cards, loyalty cards), AAMVA (driver’s licenses), and other F2F-encoded card formats. The three-color LED and audible beep unambiguously confirm every successful card read—even in noisy or visually distracting environments. The guaranteed service life is at least 1,000,000 card swipes.

Six interface options for every system architecture

The MiniMag Rail is available in six different interface configurations—making it compatible with virtually any host platform, from traditional Kiosk controllers to modern PC- and Linux-based systems:

TTL (IDMB-330433AB) – For direct connection to microcontrollers, embedded systems, and proprietary Kiosk hardware without a standard interface. Port-powered; no external power supply required.

RS232 (IDMB-332433B) – Classic serial interface for integration into existing Kiosk and vending machine systems with an RS232 host. Requires an external 5V power supply.

RS232 Port Powered (IDMB-330433B) – RS232 version without an external power supply; powered directly by the host. Ideal for systems where a separate power line is undesirable or not possible.

PS/2 Keyboard Wedge (IDMB-333433B) – Keyboard wedge emulation for direct integration into systems with a PS/2 port, without the need to install drivers.

USB/Keyboard Emulation (IDMB-334433B) – USB interface with keyboard emulation: The device is recognized by the operating system as a standard keyboard. No driver required; Plug and Play compatible with Windows, Linux, and macOS.

USB/HID (IDMB-335433B) – USB-HID interface for direct integration into POS applications that communicate with the reader via the HID protocol. Port-powered.

USB/CDC Serial (IDMB-336433B) – USB interface with serial COM port emulation for applications that require RS-232-like communication over USB. Port-powered.

Fully programmable: Customized data output

All versions of the MiniMag Rail can be easily configured using the Windows-based MagSwipe Configuration Utility. Data fields can be split, rearranged, edited, and prefixed or suffixed with characters. The device automatically distinguishes between AAMVA driver’s license formats and ISO credit card data and verifies data integrity through vertical and horizontal error checking. JPOS and OPOS drivers are available for integration into professional POS frameworks.
