How your ID reader works
The digital ID card reader interacts with identity documents, such as the NFC-enabled ID cards, which transmit the data in encrypted form. From here, the data is then transferred to the designated host system or to a secure database via a secure application – error-free, of course. The process is secure, safe and constantly being monitored to ensure compliance with strict national and European legislation.
Contactless ID reader
We currently offer the bR500 C45F ID reader for capturing personal data from the NFC chip in the German national ID card (Personalausweis).
This is a NFC contactless card reader that is extremely secure. It has a compact design and is easy to use without extensive training. 4 colored LED lights indicate the current card and reader status. The built-in smart technology based on Bluetooth works across platforms. In this respect, these card readers offered by PCP Europe are designed for all PCs and operating systems (Android, iOS, Windows, Linux, MacOS) – compatibility between the card reader and the software is standard practice.
In addition, the ID reader is powered by a 350 mAh rechargeable battery. This high-capacity battery allows the user to operate the reader for approximately 1 week before recharging the battery (under normal use). If the reader is left in idle, it will automatically turn off after 3 minutes. In this way, the ID reader saves a lot of energy and preserves the battery capacity. Designed to capture personal information, this innovative card reader is mobile and can be used at any location of your choice, giving you the flexibility you need.

Security with ID readers
In Germany, the use of card readers is still very much on the back burner, mainly due to public security concerns. Many people are still unsure about the security standards. The risk of their personal data being misused seems all too real. Institutions such as the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) are also defining high security standards to counter this public opinion. Nevertheless, they are gaining ground in their efforts to dispel such concerns. One thing is clear: the security requirements for ID readers will continue to be scrutinized by BSI.
We can assure you that our ID readers do not decrypt any data from ID cards, but only send fully encrypted data packets to the designated host, meeting the highest current security standards. Our card readers meet the high standards of the BSI requirement TR-03119.
